BIOGRAPHY
A bright yet reserved child, Hyuk Kim excelled in his studies with an insatiable thirst for discovery. He would scour secondhand bookshops for worn-out books at a heavily discounted price to add to his growing collection. He also tried his hand at writing his own pieces at an early age, mimicking his favourite authors. At 13, his short story won the Chosun Ilbo's Short Stories for Children competition. He has not stopped creating since.Despite the initial backlash from his family, Kim forewent a scholarship for biomedical engineering to pursue a literature degree. He adopted the pen name Travis Kim from this period onwards.
With multiple accolades and literary awards under his belt, Kim has established his place as a household name in the industry. His first published work, a collection of poems and short stories titled 'The Most Beautiful Moment in Life' (화양연화), was a national bestseller the year following its release. His debut novel, the genre-bending thriller novel 'Monster' (한귀물) won the Hyundae Munhak Literary Award for Fiction. The novel, along follow up releases 'Chasm of Chaos' (구멍 안의 혼돈) and 'Still Life' (미술은 움직이지 않아), have been translated to 15 languages and counting. It is also rumoured that one of his works will be adapted by Netflix as a mini-series in 2024.Kim's essays and literary crirticisms have been anthologised widely as well, and he has since penned several column pieces for Chosun Ilbo, Korean Herald, The Times (London), and Wall Street Journal.
In 2015 Kim founded his publishing company 'RKHIVE', which was an extension of his writing blog of the same name. He is also contributed to the founding of 'flowerworks', a non-profit organisation now running in East and South East Asia, with aim to support aspiring writers from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly children from rural areas and single-income families, providing scholarships and opportunities to improve their literacy and literary skills.Kim is a well-known antique book and Korean art collector, and hopes to hold an exhibition of his private collection one day. When not writing or reading, he enjoys museum visits, long walks along the beach and a warm cup of Sumatran coffee.

RKHIVE PUBLISHING traces its humble beginnings to the writing blog of multi-award winning Travis Kim, who started the webpage as a writing outlet and portfolio at 15 years old. The blog grew in purpose after Kim became a published author, becoming a platform where he shares his ideas, prompts and manuscripts he never realised to their full form. He also recommended books in various forms, genres and disciplines fortnightly.A new feature was added in 2011, allowing users to post their work inspired by Kim's posts and book recommendations. This grew the platform to be a site used by 2 million users in South Korea and 6 million worldwide, with hundreds of thousands of stories shared with the community worldwide.Seeing the potential in many of the shared works, RKHIVE established itself as an independent publishing company in 2015 to facilitate aspiring writers to make a name for themselves. With this unique approach to publishing, RKHIVE continues to colour the South Korean literary scene with its authentic and genuine love for storytelling.
